Press release

May 8, 2026: The National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP) participated as an honorary witness in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Enduring Earth and the Mexican Fund for Nature Conservation (FMCN). This alliance is a key step to ensure the financial sustainability of the ANP in the country.

This document explores the feasibility of a Financing Initiative for the Permanence of Projects that has national scope and ensures long-term resources for the management of Protected Natural Areas under the leadership of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, through CONANP.

Enduring Earth is an international initiative comprised of The Nature Conservancy, The Pew Charitable Trusts, World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and ZOMA LAB, and aims to protect one billion hectares of land, oceans, and freshwater by 2030, securing long-term funding, community development, and effective ecosystem protection.

Under the memorandum, Enduring Earth will provide technical and strategic support and potential resource mobilization to CONANP and FMCN, leveraging its more than three decades of experience in conservation financing with the Fund for Natural Protected Areas (FANP).

This collaboration seeks to evaluate the feasibility of a long-term financing mechanism that will consolidate the management of existing protected natural areas, as well as strengthen a robust and representative national conservation system.

This effort aligns with the MEx30x30 project, an initiative that seeks to lay the financial and institutional foundations for the country to conserve 30% of its territory by 2030, in line with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

In addition to contributing to the protection of biodiversity, the document represents a strategic step forward in strengthening CONANP’s role in generating social and economic benefits for protected natural areas.

Finally, with this alliance, Mexico reinforces its international leadership in conservation financing and takes a decisive step towards consolidating a stronger, more resilient and sustainable system of protected areas over time.
