Vacancy: Communications Intern

Location: Based in San José, Costa Rica

 

The Communications Intern will work directly with the Enduring Earth Team, providing creative support to help amplify our program priorities and activities.

Reports to: Senior Director, Communications

Status: 12 month internship

Position Summary

Enduring Earth is an ambitious collaboration between The Nature Conservancy, Pew Charitable Trusts, World Wildlife Fund and ZOMALAB, that works with all stewards of the environment to accelerate conservation worldwide. We seek to protect and conserve our planet’s ocean, lands, and freshwater, and secure long-term financing for conservation, economic diversification, and community prosperity. This is built on a commitment to uphold the rights of people and create opportunities for sustainable growth.

Central to our approach is a model known as project finance for permanence (PFP) – also referred to as a PFP, which secures long-term investment in conservation initiatives by tying sustained funding to tangible, measurable goals encompassing both social and environmental benefits. Projects are collaboratively designed, locally-led, nationally supported, sustainably funded, and highly accountable, with the goal to inhibit nature’s decline and produce robust conservation outcomes at a global scale.  

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and creative Communications Intern to join our team and play a vital role in amplifying our message and mission. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in various communication functions within the context of NGOs and particularly NGO alliances.

This role is based in Costa Rica and reports to the Senior Director, Communications. The candidate is expected to work 21 hours per week in a schedule to be jointly defined.

Responsibilities

Social Media:
  • Support the implementation of a social media strategy to increase brand awareness and engagement across relevant platforms according to our audiences.
  • Create compelling social media content (text, images, and videos) that aligns with Enduring Earth’s mission and target audience.
  • Monitor social media conversations and respond to comments and inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
Emails and Newsletters:
  • Support the development of content for monthly e-newsletters.
  • Craft engaging headlines and source informative articles and visuals for the newsletters.
  • Utilize email marketing tools to supportdrafting newslettercontent.
  • Ensure compliance with anti-spam regulations.
  • Track newsletter performance metrics and analyze results to improve future engagement
Intranet: 
  • Update and maintain content on Enduring Earth’s internal website and support user management.
  • Collaborate to ensure the website is informative and user-friendly, in collaboration with colleagues.
Basic Graphic Design:
  • Create basic graphics for social media posts, presentations, and other internal documents using design software like Canva.
  • Maintain a consistent visual identity for Enduring Earth across various communication materials.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a University degree program in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field (or recent graduate).
  • Strong interest in environmental conservation and sustainability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in social media platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.).
  • Experience with email marketing tools a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of graphic design principles and design software preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Team player with a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
